Severn Bridge Half Marathon Success!
The Bank Holiday weekend saw over 2,300 runners lined up on the start line on the old Severn Bridge on Sunday for this year’s Severn Bridge half marathon, sponsored by Basepoint Chepstow.
Steve Way won Sunday’s race, breaking the course record in a time of 1 hour, 12 minutes and 40 seconds.
Emma Wookey from Lliswerry Runners was the first woman over the line, in an time of 1 hour, 20 minutes, 2 seconds. Emma improved on her time from last year, when she came second in the race.
All the winners received cash prizes and beautiful hand-crafted wooden trophies, featuring the bridge.
The overcast conditions were ideal for running and luckily the rain held off until almost all of the competitors had crossed the line.
The run started on the Basepoint Chepstow end of the old Severn Bridge, on the M48 motorway. Runners looped through villages in England before coming back over the bridge on the pedestrian access-way.
Charity partners for the event were Basepoint Chepstow’s chosen charity, St. David's Hospice Care and also Great Western Air Ambulance.
