Workplace Health Awards for Basepoint Chepstow
Here at Basepoint Chepstow we are pleased to announce that we have recently been awarded our second ‘Small Workplace Health Award’ by The Welsh Government. The Small Workplace Health Award is the new national mark of quality for health and well-being in the workplace, for organisations employing fewer than 50 people.
It is a developmental process, based on good practice and improvement and it can be used to support the creation of activities that promote the health and well-being of employees. The award has been developed to target the key preventable ill-health issues in the workplace, which will also help to increase organisational performance and productivity.
It has three levels of award (bronze, silver and gold) to recognise each development stage achieved. At the end of September we received our silver award, having achieved the bronze level in August.
The business case for workplace health improvement continues to strengthen. A focus on health and well-being can improve the engagement and motivation of employees and lead to increased effectiveness, productivity and competitiveness.
It is estimated that sickness absence can be reduced by 20-50 per cent with effective practices in the workplace. Around 175 million working days were lost to illness in Britain in 2006, which is equivalent to seven days for each working person. In Wales on average, sickness absence costs employers £659 per employee each year.
