Abergavenny Christmas Food and Drink Fair
There were Christmas treats at the Abergavenny Christmas Food and Drink Fair on 13th December
Thousands of food lovers packed into Abergavenny town centre this weekend for the Christmas Food and Drink Fair.
The fair boasted more than 80 stallholders, family friendly workshops, local chef demonstrations and the best in festive food, drink and entertainment. The party started early for some, at Dom Jacobs’ sold out cocktail masterclass on Saturday evening.
He wowed the full house with his recipes taken from his own Mayfair cocktail bar and shared his top tips for the perfect drinks reception this festive season.
As the market town transformed into a winter wonderland, visitors sampled the best in seasonal treats and picked up techniques to take their own Christmas feasts to the next level.
Demonstrations from local chefs proved popular with the crowd, in particular Liz Knight and Rufus Carter who took to the stage on a mission to prove that canapés are still the ideal nibbles for the party season.
New to the The Fair was the Festive Farmyard and families gathered to meet their favourite animals and try their luck at guessing the weight of Greenmeadow Community Farms prized pig.
With the pig weighing in at 33.5 kilos, victory went to Daphne Barber who won a luxury meal for two at Llansatffraed Court Hotel.
The Christmas Musical Feast and Festive Light Parade was the highlight of the day as hundreds joined the Abergavenny Borough Brass Band and made their way from the Market Hall to the Priory Courtyard carrying homemade lanterns and singing everyone’s festive favourites.
A mulled wine and Christmas carol reception courtesy was a magical end to the day as guests joined in with a few verses of ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ and left with a spring in their step.
Heather Myers , Chief Executive of the Festival said, “It’s been wonderful to invite everyone back to Abergavenny after the massive success of the Festival in September.
We’ve had a very busy year and it takes a lot of work to organise not one, but two events so it’s been lovely to see everyone relax and get into the festive spirit.
“We’d like to thank everyone involved, from the chefs and professionals that demonstrated and our lovely stallholders to everyone who joined us this weekend. We hope our guests enjoyed it as much as we did and would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.”
