Fundsraising Lunch to support St David’s Hospice
Basepoint Chepstow were delighted to support the Lloyds Bank Rugby Lunch which took place at The Swalec Stadium in Cardiff on Friday, to raise vital funds for our chosen charity St David’s Hospice Care.
Basepoint is owned by The ACT Foundation, a leading grant making charity dedicated to improving the quality of life of those in need. As such, each centre is dedicated to supporting a selected charity and The ACT Foundation match funds money raised by the charity. The match funding donated for this event was £2,000, which brings the total donated to St David’s Hospice Care this financial year to £10,000.
Last year St David’s Hospice Care cared for over 3,200 patients facing a life-limiting illness and supported their families and carers. At any one time their nurses are caring for over 1,100 patients. The cost of providing this service, which is free-of-charge to patients and their families, is over £7.5 million per annum, of which only a small percentage is Government funded. They would not be able to maintain these vital services without the help and support of local people and the business community.
This is the 13th year of the well-established Rugby Lunch which is always held just prior to the start of the Six Nations. The highly entertaining afternoon featured guest speaker Brian Moore. Brian is a former England rugby union hooker who has also played club rugby for Nottingham, Harlequins and Richmond. He represented England 64 times between 1987-95 and was a Grand Slam winner in 1991, 1992 and 1995.
The total monies raised from this year’s Rugby Lunch have now exceeded £120,000. This amount will be match funded by Lloyds bank and will help St David’s Hospice Care, along with various other local charities.
