Handbags at the ready - Basepoint Camberley and Christopher’s Smile in charity event that raises £10,000
Basepoint Camberley recently took part in a ‘Fashion Lunch’ fundraiser with their chosen charity, Christopher’s Smile. Christopher’s Smile raised over £10,000 in an event that was enjoyed by more than 200 guests who were all treated to lunch, a fashion show, and a Basepoint stall selling designer handbags.
Christopher’s Smile is a charity that funds the development of new biological drugs to treat medulloblastoma and other childhood cancers without devastating side effects. These drugs will provide an effective cure for all and save the lives of the children who currently do not survive this awful disease. By directly funding academic researchers, Christopher’s Smile will expedite the testing and development of these new drugs enabling children in the future to have access to more effective and safer treatments.
Karen Capel, Founder of Christopher’s Smile, comments: “The money raised from the event will be used to fund equipment and other critical research work. It is a sad fact that childhood cancer research lags behind the research being undertaken for adults, but thanks to everyone’s generous donations we can continue to bring hope to some of those children who receive the worst prognosis. We want to say thank you for such a great day and to everyone who donated money to this great cause.”
Anne Moore, centre manager of Basepoint Camberley, adds: “We had such a fantastic day at the Fashion Lunch. We raised over £100 from selling designer handbags, so many people in attendance enjoyed a bargain or two! We continue to support Christopher’s Smile in the amazing work that they do, and we are extremely grateful to everyone who joined us and donated money.”
