Cancer Research UK launches 2010 Relay for Life
The Evesham branch of national charity Cancer Research UK launched the 2010 edition of its highly successful fund-raising initiative Relay for Life at a party held at the Bengeworth Club on Saturday 19 September.
All were welcome to join in the celebrations and enjoy the free disco, and even start planning for the 2010 event. Relay for Life is an event whereby teams of eight to 15 people get together to raise funds for cancer research by taking turns to walk or run for a total of 24 hours. A two-day event was held in June at Evesham High School and raised a phenomenal £33,000 towards vital research. The 2010 event will take place at the same venue on 26-27 June with the target of beating the 2009 total. The Relay for Life weekend plays a valuable role in raising awareness of cancer and the importance of research being undertaken by scientists funded by charities including Cancer Research UK. Now in its third year, the previous two events have also turned out to be great days out for all concerned, with a range of entertainments on offer including live music and in 2009 an ‘It’s a Knockout’ style competition. The UK branch of Cancer Research UK has recently moved into an office at Basepoint Evesham, taking advantage of its offer of twelve months’ rent-free space for charities and other not-for-profit organisations. The Basepoint group is itself owned by a charity – The ACT Foundation – and all its profits go towards helping those in need, in particular the physically and mentally disabled.
