Basepoint Chepstow Presents £3000 Cheque to Local Charity St David’s Hospice Care
On Friday 28th November, Basepoint Chepstow was delighted to present a cheque for £3000 to St David’s Hospice Care. The cheque represented match funding provided by Basepoint’s parent company, The Act Foundation.
Tania Ansell, Community Fundraiser (pictured right), received the cheque on behalf of St David’s. She said “It was with great pleasure that we collected a cheque for £3,000 today for match funding of our Monmouth Raft Race and Llantarnam Abbey BBQ. What a great start to the weekend!”
The Monmouth Raft Race took place in September and was the 49th annual Monmouth Raft Race. The race started at midday at Monmouth Rowing Club and finished 6.5 miles down-river at Tump Farm in Whitebrook where there was a Family Festival, including a children’s fairground, a Hog Roast, a bar serving locally brewed Real Ale and live music from ‘Twysted River’. A great day was had by all at the long-running annual event. It is believed that the Race was founded by the Monmouthshire Young Farmers Club, and was for very many years run by the Monmouthshire Conservative Association. Organisation of the race was ceded to the Rotary Club of Monmouth in 2003. In its heyday the race apparently fielded over 200 rafts, but in the nine years of Rotary ‘ownership’ it has grown from 40 to 72 with hopes next year of 80+ rafts.
The Llantarnam Abbey BBQ is also an annual event that takes place at the prestegious Llantarnam Abbey in Cwmbran. Guests had a splendid afternoon on Saturday 30 August, enjoying Stalls, a BBQ, a bouncy castle and live music, to name but a few of the event’s attractions.
The Basepoint team in Chepstow are very proud to support St David’s Hospice Care and are looking forward to becoming involved in many more exciting events in the future.
