Basepoint Folkestone present a cheque for over £6,000 to their charity - Sing For Your Life
Basepoint Folkestone support ‘Sing for Your Life’ as their chosen charity. Today Lorraine May – Centre Manager and Caroline O’Donnell – Assistant Manager from Basepoint were honoured to present a cheque to Stuart Brown Director of Sing For Your Life with a cheque for £6,104.61 as match funding for various fund raising events that they and their partners have arranged.
Sing For Your Life are a registered charity that started in 2005 and they support the health and wellbeing of older people using participatory musical activities, particularly singing. They coordinate Silver Song Clubs, which provide regular sessions of social and community music making. Their work is embedded in research undertaken by the Sidney De Haan Centre based within Canterbury Christ Church University.
They have adopted the mantra “a song a day keeps the doctor away!”
Singing is truly a wonderful therapeutic activity and what is becoming increasingly clear to them is that there is growing body of clinical evidence that can prove it!
