Alfies Kayak Charity Challengee
On the morning of Saturday 21st May, five of us set off to begin our kayaking challenge on the River Wye. It was a damp morning but we were all excited as we arrived at Hoarwithy to launch our kayaks.
After some time to get organised with our buoyancy aids, wet shoes and packing our stuff in dry bags we had the difficult task of launching the kayaks down a very steep, muddy bank. There were a group of people on the river bank to wave us off. We paddled and paddled, having very little stops, all the way to Ross on Wye Rowing Club where our back up team met us for lunch.
At lunch time we all ate ravenously after our long paddle down the river. I wandered on the bank for a little bit before we got back in the kayaks for the next part of our challenge. In the middle of our afternoon paddle, unfortunately for us, we had a swan attack! First the swan tried to attack me and when Mummy and Mark came to save me, the swan tried to attack them too.
Later in the afternoon as we were approaching Symonds Yat I fell out of my kayak in some white water but I was ok. It also started to rain quite heavily as the day progressed, making it hard work for all of us as we got wetter and colder.
We finally came to the end of our challenge and found a place to leave the river. We were all very cold and wet with aching arms however we all felt very proud of our achievement, especially me as I was the only child with 4 adults.
We raised almost £300 for Inner Flame and would like to thank all those who sponsored us.
Thank you.
