Basepoint, a wholly owned subsidiary company of The ACT Foundation, have launched their “Making A Difference For Nepal” campaign to raise money for ShelterBox (www.shelterbox.org.uk), a UK registered charity providing emergency shelter and vital supplies to Nepal.
ShelterBox is sending shelter kits which will help people to mend buildings and build temporary shelters that can be adapted and moved when needed. As we launch this appeal more ShelterBox teams are arriving to support the people most in need and to distribute aid.
The earthquake is the most devastating in 80 years and the millions of people affected were already living in severe poverty and struggling to make ends meet. As you read this, those who survived the disaster are running out of vital supplies. In areas outside of the capital many more are trapped, blocked off by landslides, and the injured are waiting for life-saving medical treatment.
The earthquake may have lasted just over a minute but the impact on the people of Nepal will be felt for many years to come. They desperately need help and whilst the Basepoint motto of “Making a Difference” is usually aimed at new businesses starting out in life, we are using it in the hope of giving the poor people in Nepal a new start in life.
With your help we hope to raise £250,000 for ShelterBox and we have already sent them £100,000 in order that they can ship further aid immediately. We would like to send them another £150,000 by the end of May. To help achieve this target Basepoint will match fund any money given to its appeal until the target is achieved. Our appeal and offer to match fund is open to anybody that wishes to donate but, in particular, we are appealing to all Companies and employees located in any of the 30 Basepoint Centres throughout the UK to join us in Making A Difference For Nepal.
With our promise of match funding, any donation given through our appeal is doubled and the money will go directly to helping provide shelter for the injured and homeless and other essential items such as blankets and water filters to those who have lost everything.
Life-saving support will be given to the most vulnerable people, including children, the elderly and those who are disabled. With temperatures dropping to zero in many parts, along with constant thunderstorms and rain, the need for shelter is becoming even more desperate.
Basepoint will collect any donations through its parent company, The ACT Foundation, a registered grant making charity, which means we can claim from HMRC an extra 25p for every £1 an individual gives if they utilise gift aid and Companies will be able to set their donation off against Tax.
