333 Dalmatians raise more than £25k
More than 300 cyclists donned spotted lycra over the weekend for the annual Dalmatian Bike Ride. A total of 333 cyclists joined in the ride at this year's event, which is organised to raise funds for Basepoint Chepstow's chosen charity, St David’s Hospice Care. Basepoint's parent company, the ACT Foundation, have pledged to match fund the event to the tune of £500.
There were two routes for cyclists to choose from, a 40 or 20 mile route, both of which started and finished at The Priory in Caerleon.
The event was first set up five years ago in memory of John Dixon, who died from bowel cancer, and was organised by his son-in-law Dave Rees.
So far £101,000 has been raised for the hospice (which is an apt amount given the Dalmatian theme!). The hospice are hoping to add an extra £25,000 after they have counted up this year’s total amount.
The event improves every year. Organisers aim to attract more than 500 cyclists for next year's bike ride.
It's never too early to start training!
