Basepoint Chepstow welcomed a new licensee to its shared office in the form of Andy Gray of Severn Smart Limited
Based in Caldicot, Andy graduated from Sheffield City Polytechnic in 1981 and has worked in a variety of software system based roles ever since. Since 1997 he has have been involved with transport ticketing systems, including both ticket vending machines and station ticket barrier systems.
Severn Smart Limited was set up by Andy in 2013 to provide consultancy services for Smartcard based transport ticketing systems. Severn Smart’s main expertise is based around the ITSO Smartcard standard which is used throughout the UK on a number of rail and bus networks. This standard defines the requirements for the card itself, as well as the reader devices, back office systems and the associated security infrastructure.
Andy is currently contracted, until the end of March 2017, to the London based Rail Delivery Group providing technical support for the development of a centralised ITSO platform for National Rail Train Operators, initially in London and South East England. Future plans are to continue to provide consultancy services to transport operators and smartcard service suppliers. Andy is also hoping to develop software tools to support these services, as well as expanding the scope of services offered to cover smartcard applications outside the transport sector.
